About the Work

Calcutta, today Kolkata, was once the capital of the Raj and the second city of the British Empire. It is an impressive, urban fossil, covered in grand, dilapidated squares, parks and buildings. I searched for one place to photograph, to represent Kolkata and this amazingly British contribution to India, - perhaps a non-PC view today. But there were so many buildings and places to choose from, I simply gave up. So I took my photo stuff back to the hotel and decided instead to wander around the huge Indian Museum next door just for fun. There, quite by chance, was my answer. And I had just an iphone to hand.
